Most so-called mobile air conditioners are a single box with a fat hose out of the window. The compressor sits in the room with you — running hot, running loud, and working against itself. We tested that kind at length before we bought anything, and the results didn't come close to what we'd want in a room we were paying to sleep in. So we didn't put them in the range.

The PortaSplit is built the other way round. A slim outdoor unit hangs on the window frame, the compressor and all its heat stay outside, and the unit indoors only ever puts out cool air. Same principle as a fitted split system — except nothing is fitted. It's in high demand right across Europe, and it's the only air conditioner we rent.

We bring both units, mount the outdoor half on the included bracket, seal the window opening, start it running and hand you the remote — then collect everything after your stay. It cools rooms of up to 42 m², and because it's a heat pump it warms them just as efficiently in the cooler months. No tools, no drilling, nothing left behind.
