Why I started Holiday Upgrade
Hi, I'm Tim. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to live by the Mediterranean. Year after year, my holidays kept pulling me back to one island in particular — and after a few years of going back and forth between Germany and Mallorca, I made the move for good in 2022. Today I live in Portocolom, on the quieter eastern side of the island, with my girlfriend, two dogs and three cats.
I travel a lot by bike for road tours and gravel races all over Europe, which means I've stayed in plenty of holiday homes and apartments. And I kept noticing the same thing: beautiful places, let down by the everyday gear inside them. Talking to friends who rent fincas and villas for their holidays here on Mallorca, it was clear the same gap exists on the island. The setting is perfect; the equipment often isn't. In 2026, it felt like the right time to do something about it.
That's Holiday Upgrade: a properly run, genuinely helpful service that rents high-quality gear across a growing range of categories — the things that quietly make a holiday better.
I've always cared about quality in the things I buy for myself. Not for the badge, but because well-made things simply work better and last longer. Holiday Upgrade carries that same standard: every product we rent is chosen for how it's built, how it performs, and whether it holds up — with an eye on sustainability and safety, not just looks. If I wouldn't want it in my own home, it doesn't make the range.
Good products deserve good service. We don't leave a box at your door and wish you luck. We deliver to the house, set everything up, install it, and show you how it works — then come back to collect it at the end. You arrive, it's ready, you enjoy it. That's the whole idea.
We've started with the things we're most sure about, and we'll keep adding categories — guided by what people on Mallorca actually want to rent, not by guesswork. Our customers help shape what we stock. Right now, that's me doing the choosing, the delivering and the setting up. As Holiday Upgrade grows, it'll become a small team that shares the same standard — but the promise stays exactly the same.
We're not an anonymous rental warehouse, and we're not here only for the top end of the market. We're an approachable company run by real people, and we believe every holidaymaker deserves a little upgrade. Whether you're in a small hotel or a villa with a sea view, you're equally welcome here. A little background: I grew up in Düsseldorf and have spent more than 25 years in the digital world, lately focused on e-commerce and project management, with a few startups of my own along the way. Holiday Upgrade brings all of that together with the place I've chosen to call home.
One last thing — the name behind Holiday Upgrade. The company is officially Dinou Potes, Mallorquí for "nineteen paws." Two dogs and three cats should add up to twenty — but one of our cats, Tres, gets by on three legs (and never seems to have gotten the memo that anything's missing). So: nineteen paws. It felt like the right name for a company that cares about the things most people overlook, and welcomes everyone exactly as they are.
